I hit 20,000 words for the month! Which means that I am sitting around 60,000 words for the novel so far, very exciting, and while there are only 5,000 more words required to complete the HalfNoC challenge, I’ll be continuing on past this and hoping to get closer to ‘the end’.
At this point I really don’t know how many words it will take. I think the novel will be on the shorter side and I’m totally okay about that. Pretty much all the pieces I need to finish the book are in action, and it should easily lead on to the next steps, though I think when rewriting I’m really going to have to focus on the balance of relationships within the novel – they all work, and the main characters are necessary, but I feel a little as though I’m in danger of neglecting some characters/relationships.
Mind you, people do that right? And I am following my MC’s PoV and no other. Lives criss cross and friends fade in and out when you’re in different situations, so perhaps it’s not as bad as I’m fearing. I think it’s more that last year while writing a novel I got to the end and realized I’d completely neglected the MC’s friend for the last third of the book, she had completely disappeared off the scene and it wasn’t in line with her nature, there is no way she would actually have let that happen.
Where as in this case…perhaps not so unlikely. We’ll see I guess, and because I’m so worried about doing it again, I guess I’m not likely to as badly as before!
