Sunday wrap-up – Creativity workshop

Getting in early, even though I know I’ve already posted – it’s been a lovely morning here for Mother’s Day and I’m feeling rather more optimistic than I was yesterday/first thing.

The first week of the workshop has been inspiring. I’ve really enjoyed reading other peoples issues and interests, and then watching those being developed into the goals each person has set themselves. The variety is huge! I love seeing the different ways people have made their stories link up, or even found ways to tie together all 12 stories/poems for the workshop.

I’ve also enjoyed browsing more blogs and getting to know some more writers. The environment being created because of the workshop is one that will make me push myself and want to try harder at everything writing related. I’m so pleased to be taking part in it, even if its not for the full length.

This weeks goal:

This week I am working on the first story set in Delaney’s world. It’s about her Father, and how he came to make the choices which led to the creation of Delaney and her sisters.

I’m really excited to finally be getting this story out of me, and have spent the last few days searching for answers to the many questions I had. Bit by bit, things are getting filled in for me as I’ve worked to develop the world, which I’m very pleased about! Initially all I had was a character who had made Delaney and sisters the way they were for a reason, but no idea how he had come to that place.

In exploring the ‘why’s of this particular character, I’ve really been able to flesh out the world and set the rest of the stories up. When it comes down to it, Father is the beginning. Everything stems from him, so it was important to get it right. I know I will learn more once I get writing and get a feel for him as a person, and that’s very exciting for me!

Other stuff:

I just wanted to add that I’ve had a fairly flat week regarding my writing (you know, the typical ‘am I ever going to not suck?’ feelings we all get from time to time), and getting all your lovely comments and hearing your interest in Delaney and her story has really made me feel a lot better about where I’m at. I love that other people find her intriguing as well, before I’ve even written her story. It’s given me lots of motivation and encouragement at a time that I needed that. So thank you πŸ™‚

Let the writing begin!

  1. I’m glad you’ve finally started to get some answers to those million questions you had (and hoping that you’ll share some with me lol). I think it will be really interesting for you to write out his story. He’s pretty twisted, and there must be a lot of unusual events in his past for him to have turned out the way he has and to make him want to create Delaney and her sisters. Even if you never end up turning these into a novel, you’re going to have a pretty unqiue set of short stories when you’re done.

    1. Thanks Chibi πŸ™‚ I don’t think he’s *that* twisted, he just has a different take on things… haha, but then, I say that about all my characters no matter what they end up doing!

    1. Thanks πŸ™‚ I have indeed, it’s a great thing to be a part of – you should be really proud of what’s already happened, even just a week in, with no stories written!

  2. Initially all I had was a character who had made Delaney and sisters the way they were for a reason, but no idea how he had come to that place.

Ooh! I now vaguely recall you talking about how the origin of Delaney and her sisters wasn’t usual. I just know you’re exploring some really interesting characters. I hope you have fun with it this week (and month)!

    1. I think its going to be both challenging and a total blast. Should be heaps of fun finally letting the world seep onto the page.

  3. Happy Mother’s Day! We’re celebrating here too…. πŸ™‚

Sometimes the writing just feels so outside everything, maybe it’s just the skill of writing. But it’s there, just needing some stoking!! Delaney sounds so intriguing. You go girl!!

  4. Delaney sounds like an interesting character, as does her father – so glad to hear you made a little more progress in uncovering secrets from their world! Happy writing this week! Can’t wait to hear how it goes.

  5. I’m all wrap up in Delaney’s story and I’ve only this week found out she exists! As for the time suck – Gosh don’t I know. Life offers too many fun and exciting thing to do, not to mention that responsibility word. I tried cancelling sleep, but it doesn’t work. The muse does not respond to sleep deprivation.

    1. Haha, my toddler seems intent on cancelling my sleep – my muse is on strike as a result! Am really hoping to get a decent sleep tonight so that I can get started on this story tomorrow… ah, I really hope my energy in general returns actually…
Glad that she interests you, and others, it’s really nice to know I have an interesting character.
