The power of people

It’s been less than two days since Christchurch was hit. Less than two days since I had the idea to put together an anthology to help raise funds. I can’t believe that such a small portion of time has passed, and yet so much has happened. New Zealand as we know it has been tipped upside down, shaken like a snow globe and we’re all watching, waiting to see where each flake lands.

(it has been two days right? sometimes it feels like it’s all still happening now, like it’s the same day, or it’s been a whole week – goodness knows that the fallout from a quake like this will be happening for months to come, if not longer).

Anyway… the point of the post is mostly just to say that so far we’re doing amazing things with this anthology. We should have a title confirmed by the end of today, we have close to twenty authors contributing stories so far and still more replies to come. We’ve got some big names folks! And I’m excited to announce those once they are double confirmed. We’ve got people wanting to work on art for the cover, a designer who is going to help with putting the cover together too.

I’ve been humbled, and astounded by the response.

I may have had the initial spark, but it takes more than one person to bring something like this from idea to reality. I have moments where the scale of this scares the hell out of me, but then I check myself: this isn’t about me, this is about helping, and I will do whatever I can.

Massive thanks to everyone who has supported this,  had an encouraging word to say, offered to pitch in and help. All the writers out there who are busy working on stories or digging out reprints for us. We’re trying to do this on the smallest time frame possible, while still giving people a chance to participate. If you know writers, you know it takes awhile to get a story written and then get it right.

We’ll make another announcement about where we’re at later, including some of the amazing and wonderful writer’s who are taking part.

Thanks, everyone! You are all fantastic.

P.S if you have emailed me, and I haven’t gotten back to you yet, I will do as soon as I can 🙂 Thanks again!
