A month or so ago, I started taking one night out of the house a week as a ‘study’ night. This involves taking myself off to the library with another friend who is a student, and spending my time between study and writing (and conversation). It’s lovely to sit in relative peace and get through a good chunk of work – really satisfying.
Unfortunately, I quickly realized that I was going to struggle to get through as much as I wanted without the use of a laptop. Mine was down to lasting about 10mins before the battery died, and there didn’t seem to be many power points to spare. I started thinking…and eventually came to the conclusion that I desperately needed a netbook. It became my new obsession for a few hours, until I broached the topic with Hubby who instantly said, “you know what? I think Mum has one sitting in her wardrobe.”
He grabbed the phone, and just minutes later she had offered up her netbook to further my writing career and my study life.
I have the best mother in law in the world, don’t ya think?
She then posted it down to me, and in less than a week from initial desire, I had my new friend in my hands.
Isn’t it cute?
I am madly in love with it for so many reasons. First and foremost is that it has an insane 7hr+ battery life. I couldn’t believe it. It’s in mint condition, so pretty and shiny and oh I am in love. Also the keyboard is only a teeny bit smaller than a regular laptop, so there has been no awkward transition period while I tried to train my fingers to be more nimble. And it’s so portable!!!
Here’s a quick size comparison. It’s so compact that I can even take it to school in my bag to squeeze some extra writing time into my day.
Anyway, having this new friend has really done wonders for me. I can get more writing done, in more locations, and I never have to think about battery life again. My laptop will now last longer, and my shiny little netbook can come traipsing around town with me.
A huge thank you to my generous, wonderful, supportive and fabulous mother in law for gifting this to me (all she wants in return is a bunch of hugs from the kids, and I offered to make her to most delicious cake in the world in return for posting it so that I didn’t have to wait any longer 😉 Thanks Barb! You are awesome).
