My friend, Duotrope

If you are a writer then you should know about this site. It is one of the best tools I have come across online. I’ve had an account there for awhile now, and make sure I donate every year to help keep the site free to use.

Not only is it an excellent site for finding markets of any type – for any length of work, for any type of payment, for any kind of submission and for all the various methods of being published – but it has a wicked submissions tracker to boot.

The fun doesn’t stop there though, folks. For each of its listings it tracks submission/response information! You can see what the acceptance rate it, what percentage of rejections are form or personal. They have lists of the good, the bad and the ugly, the most personable, and other fun lists. And if that isn’t enough for you, you can also find a deadline calender with information about upcoming anthologies and competitions, their deadlines and themes.

Isn’t that awesome? Seriously, writers, if you haven’t checked this site out yet, you need to. If you have checked it out but haven’t signed up, then do so. It makes the submission process so much easier. And if you HAVE signed up yet, but haven’t donated – think about it. Please. They say that if every registered used donated under $5 each, per year, they will have all their costs covered. That’s a very small price to pay for such a fantastic resource.

  1. I’ve seen Duotrope mentioned before, but I had no idea what it was. Thanks for this post. I went poking around on the site and ended up signing up for my own account. I love hearing about different resources out there for writers.

    1. Happy to have helped, Heather! I have to confess to saying to a lot of people to check out Duotrope, but never before have I gone into so many reasons WHY I think they should. The site deserves a shout out now and again. It’s an excellent resource, and I hope you get lots of use out of it πŸ™‚

  2. Ah yes, Duotrope is fantastic. I do need to donate this year. Next month (I try and make one one-off donation a month) as I’ve just spent this month’s donation on pizza for protesters is Wisconsin πŸ˜€

    1. lol! pizza is always a good investment πŸ˜‰ I still need to donate this year as well, just waiting for my pay to go into my account so that I can do it! Not sure how I used to get by without Duotrope.
