As J.C. Hart I write fiction most influenced by the mythology and culture of the land I live on. As Nova Blake I look more to the wider world, drawing inspiration from everything from fairy tales to mythology. In all my books I love nothing more than exploring the complexities of relationships, whether they be between friends, lovers, family, or enemies.
I’m an alumna of the Te Papa Tupu programme, a Sir Julius Vogel Award winning editor, and most importantly I love coffee, chocolate, and everything zombies.

Yes, these are my baby teeth. The amazing artist Dale Copeland (Dale Copeland) created this necklace for me in return for a little babysitting, back in my early teens. Two decades later it appeared on the cover of Baby Teeth: Bite-sized Tales of Terror – not many people can say that their baby teeth have been the focus of a book cover!

This was a gift from my awesome husband, and the only kind of gnome I could imagine owning. I’ve strategically placed him in the garden so that he stares at my teen when she plays scary games on the PS4.
