New additions, and getting back to basics

As some of you know, we have a kitten. We didn’t get him so much as he showed up, has been here for a month, and my husband has accepted the fact that he’s now a part of the family. He is getting braver, and more friendly, and I foresee many lovely snuggles with him in the future. In the meantime, he likes to sit in the office with me while I write, which is nice.

His name is Oliver (yes, as in ‘please sir, can I have some more?’ He is often hungry). Ollie for short. Most of the household is delighted with this addition 🙂

I’ve decided I need to get back to basics with my writing again after emailing with a writing buddy this morning. It always comes back to ’10 minutes’, so this week I am making a point to do some of my own writing for at least ten minutes a day. It’s very easy to put it off, to read stories for the anthology instead, to critique other peoples work, to do proofreading for my job and completely ignore my own stuff. But in order to feed myself, keep myself happy and balanced, I NEED to make my writing a priority. Even if only in small chunks.

Hopefully by the end of the week I’ll be able to report good progress on the writing, as well as with Oliver.

  1. Awww what a cutie! I love cats. I talk to my cat more than I talk to most people lol.

And I’m definitely feeling the urge to get back to basics as well. I think about writing a lot, but never actually do any of it. Problematic… :p

All the best for this week!

    1. All the best to you, too, Toni! Hope getting back into the writing goes well 🙂 Start with ten minutes 😉

I can’t say I talk to my cats more than people, because the kids are pretty chatty lol in fact it’s sometimes a nice relief to just sit with a cat and enjoy the silence together.

  2. Several years ago my parents were adopted by a cat and now my siblings and I joke that Fluffy has kicked us out of the will! 🙂 But a pet is so necessary at times, and it looks like Ollie fits right in!

I completely agree with the need for ten minutes. So many things swirl in our worlds, but the writing has to occur somewhere in our day! Thinking wordy thoughts for you… 🙂

  3. Thanks, Anna 🙂 I actually managed to kick the end of this short story into shape. I just need to write a new final scene, and polish everything up then it should be ready for some feedback I think. Yay!

Cats are funny creatures, I wouldn’t be without one. In fact, I think I’m some kind of cat snob and don’t really think you can have a *home* without at least one! lol if it weren’t for my wonderful husband, I’d probably have ended up being a crazy cat lady 😉 though, I guess there is still time for that… heheh

  4. We had a similar situation last summer when a cat family adopted us. I’ve never been into cats before, but find myself really liking them now. Ollie is quite cute too! Thanks for stopping by my blog today. I’ll be back to yours soon.

    1. Thanks for stopping by! I think it’s funny how many people get adopted by cats. I guess thats just their nature, that whole -cats choose their owners- thing has something to it.
