I love/loathe…

I had a EUREKA! moment while working on the novella this morning. I’d known that there was something missing, but hadn’t been able to put my finger on it – then all of a sudden it hit me. YAY! I can fix all the problems now, all of them.

What I love, is that the answer was right under my nose. It’s an easy fix. Wonderful.

What I loathe is that the answer was right under my freaking nose. In fact, I’d written it in the first draft, and then removed it. It had been so embedded in my brain, that I didn’t think about the fact that no-one else could getΒ it, because IT WASN’T IN THE NOVELLA ANY MORE.

All in all, of course this is fantastic news for the novella. (Which still needs a name by the way, anyone have a suggestion??) I am tempted to go back right now and fix it all, but I still have three scenes to write, and I should get to the end before I go back. I imagine it will take me a couple of weeks to get it to the point where I’m ready to send it to my readers, but at least now I know I’ll be happy with it. The stakes are high enough. There are good reasons for decisions made. Thank goodness.

Our brains are pretty wonderful, really. The answers are all there, it’s just a matter of chipping away at the rock that contains them until you can see those answers.

    1. It’s VERY exciting. I am just ignoring the fact that I know I’ll find more things wrong with it, and if it gets accepted anywhere there will be yet more editing to do πŸ™‚

  1. I love that stuff when it happens! Sometimes it’s like your subconscious had all the answers when you began the story and you’re just uncovering them as you go along. It’s the best feeling πŸ˜€ It’s why I love revising sooooo much. It’s as much a mystery for the writer to solve as the readers πŸ™‚

    1. Brains are great, right? It’s awesome when you realize it was there all a long, and more often than not – it IS, it’s just a matter of uncovering it. So brilliant. Glad I’m not the only one who finds this happening!

  2. This kind of thing happens to me ALL the time! A weird and wonderful little computer we’ve got going on up there. Sometimes I wonder though, if my actual computer behaved as randomly as my brain does sometimes, I think I’d be looking for a new model!
And by the way, if you’re after another Beta Reader, drop me a line. I’d me more than happy to help!
